Laser Treatment for Leg Veins Can Restore Your Confidence and Youthful Appearance
Varicose and spider veins can decrease confidence and make you want to cover and hide your legs. Dr. David Passaretti offers laser treatment for leg veins at his Darien, CT, practice to safely and effectively lessen the appearance of these veins. Laser therapy can shrink visible blood vessels, causing them to be absorbed by the body and disappear. The treatment is quick, requires no downtime, and can leave you with a more even skin tone and younger-looking legs. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.
What Are Spider and Varicose Veins?
Spider veins are located close to the surface of your skin, typically in a web-like pattern. Varicose veins are larger, twisted veins that can bulge under the skin, and are often surrounded by spider veins. Both of these veins develop as blood vessels become dilated and stretched, and usually increase in visibility with age. Neither pose a health risk, nor do they generally indicate a serious medical problem. Nevertheless, they can significantly affect your confidence.
Are You a Candidate?
We offer two types of laser treatment for those with visible veins in their legs and thighs. The procedures are safe and available to patients of all ages. If you suffer from varicose veins, an endovenous laser procedure may be required first to treat the larger veins. Simple laser treatment can be performed for smaller varicose and spider veins, and can be used as a follow-up to an endovenous procedure. Both treatments can be used on all skin tones and types.
How Does Laser Treatment Work?
Endovenous laser therapy is performed as an outpatient procedure and lasts about two to three hours. You will receive local anesthesia prior to a small laser fiber being inserted into the varicose vein using ultrasound technology. The fiber emits laser light as it is slowly withdrawn, closing off the vein along its entire length, and limiting bruising and bleeding. The vein will eventually be absorbed into the body and disappear.
Smaller varicose veins and spider veins will be treated with simple laser therapy. During the procedure, a hand-held laser will direct high-energy beams of light through the skin at the targeted blood vessels. The lasers cause the blood to coagulate, sealing off and collapsing the veins to be resorbed by the body. During the procedure, you may feel a tingling or warming sensation. Most patients do not find this unpleasant, but we can provide a local anesthetic, if desired. Simple laser treatment typically takes 10 to 30 minutes, and you may require multiple sessions for the most noticeable results. Treatments are usually spaced four to six weeks apart.
After laser treatment for leg veins, you may have noticeably more youthful legs, as well as a greater sense of freedom and self-confidence.
Recovery and Results
Simple laser treatment involves no downtime. After the procedure, most patients can immediately return to work, exercise, and other daily activities. Your legs may have a slightly reddish appearance, but you should not feel any significant discomfort or inflammation. To ensure the best possible results, you should not expose your legs to large amounts of direct sunlight for several weeks. Compression garments can also help speed healing.
After endovenous treatment, you will be required to wear compression stockings for at least one week following treatment, but will be able to return to normal activities the same day. You will also come in for a follow-up appointment to assess the success of the procedure and see if simple laser therapy will be required for further results.
It can take several weeks and multiple procedures before you see the final effects of your laser treatment. The veins may change from dark blue to red, before slowly fading over subsequent weeks. After your treatment, you can have noticeably more youthful-looking legs, as well as a greater sense of freedom and self-confidence.
