Laser Treatment Can Even Out Skin Damaged by Rosacea
Rosacea is a common skin disorder that most commonly leaves the skin perpetually flushed and bumpy, although in more severe cases it can undermine vision. It affects many parts of the body and often severely impacts quality of life.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Passaretti can provide laser treatment for rosacea to eliminate unnatural redness, smooth out the skin, and improve self-confidence. Our office in Darien, CT, uses the latest laser technology to deliver safe and highly effective treatment for this and other common skin disorders.
Types of Rosacea
If you suffer from rosacea, you are not alone. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, over 14 million Americans are affected by this skin disorder. Although rosacea is not limited to any person, your age, fairness of skin, and genetic disposition can all potentially increase your risk of rosacea.
There are typically four different manifestations of the condition:
Also known as facial redness, this type of rosacea is the most easily treated type. Additionally, it can also cause blood vessels to become more visible in the face. Some patients further experience increased sensitivity and swelling.
More aggressive than facial redness, this type of rosacea triggers breakouts that closely resemble acne. In addition to redness and breakouts, this type can also cause textured patches of skin called plaques. During a consultation with Dr. Passaretti, he can determine whether your blemishes are acne or rosacea and, from there, determine the best course of treatment.
A rarer, more advanced form, this type of rosacea can cause changes in the texture and thickness of your skin. As a result, the skin can appear bumpy.
Because it affects eye function, ocular rosacea is a serious stage of form of the condition. Your eyes may become dry or light-sensitive and your vision may become blurred. If your rosacea has progressed to this stage, the doctor will likely refer you to an ophthalmologist for additional treatment.
Exploring Treatment Options
Dr. Passaretti understands the effects that rosacea can have on your self-esteem and overall quality of life. He is committed to providing a tailored treatment plan that reduces painful symptoms. Depending on the severity of the condition, Dr. Passaretti may recommend laser treatment. While medication may alleviate your symptoms, laser treatment can provide dramatic relief from skin thickening and redness.
Some patients who have received laser treatment have seen a 100 percent reduction in the visibility of their blood vessels following their sessions.
