Plastic Surgery for Summer
By David Passaretti, MD on May 08, 2017
The days have gotten longer and warmer, signaling that summer is approaching. Many people look forward to spending time at the beach, lounging by the pool, or throwing barbeques. But for some, summer is associated with a sense of apprehension because it is the time of year that people wear bathing suits, short-sleeved shirts, and shorts. If you are uncomfortable with the appearance of your body, know that there are treatment options available to you. Breast surgery and body contouring procedures can help you feel more confident when wearing skin-baring clothing. In this blog post, David Passaretti, MD, discusses some of the body imperfections that can be addressed with plastic surgery.
Excess fat is one of the most common problems that can affect various areas of the body. Dr. Passaretti can perform liposuction to remove fat from specific areas of the body. If you have pockets of fat in the arms, legs, buttocks, flanks, belly, or under the chin, the area can be contoured by suctioning the excess fat out of the body with a cannula, a specialized surgical device that safely removes fat.
Loose Skin on the Tummy
Loose skin can accumulate on the abdomen as a result of weight loss, pregnancy, and aging. As you may have noticed, loose skin does not respond to diet and exercise. The only way to remove excess skin is to have it surgically removed. Dr. Passaretti performs tummy tuck surgery, which involves the creation of an incision across the lower abdomen. Through this incision, excess skin can be removed and the abdominal muscles can be tightened to produce a smoother, flatter tummy and help you feel more confident in a bikini.
Loose Skin on the Arms
Loose skin can also form on the upper arms as a result of weight loss. This can make patients feel self conscious about wearing tank tops during the summer months. With arm lift surgery, the excess skin can be removed via an incision that is made in the armpit and along the underside of the upper arm.
Loose Skin on the Thighs
Excess skin on the thighs can cause patients to avoid wearing shorts, even on the hottest summer days. With thigh lift surgery, this excess skin can be removed, creating a smoother and more toned appearance for the thighs. Thigh lift surgery involves an incision in the groin, and along the inner thigh, allowing Dr. Passaretti to remove excess skin.
Some patients feel self conscious about wearing a bathing suit if they have small breasts. Breast augmentation can be performed to place implants within the breasts, increasing the size and improving the shape of the breasts.
The breasts can begin to sag as a result of weight loss, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and aging. When this occurs, we can perform breast lift surgery. With this procedure, Dr. Passaretti can tighten the breast skin envelope and move the nipple to a higher location on the breast, creating a more youthful and perky breast appearance.
