A Popular Surgical Solution Trusted by Patients to Transform Their Figure

Are you a candidate for a tummy tuck?

Abdominoplasty after Pregnancy

Abdominoplasty can be performed on women after pregnancy to eliminate the excess skin. By removing this skin, Dr. Passaretti can narrow the patient's shape into the hourglass figure she had before pregnancy.

Body Contouring Alternatives

Candidates can look forward to a slimmer, flatter midsection after surgery, but should explore other body contouring procedures with Dr. Passaretti if they desire significant reduction of fat.

A Closer Look at Tummy Tuck

An abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a safe and effective way of flattening the stomach. If you have excess fat that is stubbornly resistant to diet and exercise, a tummy tuck at our office may be for you.

During Your Procedure

Dr. Passaretti will first ensure that the abdominoplasty patient is properly anesthetized. He makes an incision just under the lower abdomen and separates the skin from the underlying abdominal wall. He tightens the abdominal muscles, securing them with stitches. If included in the treatment plan, Dr. Passaretti may elect to use liposuction to remove pockets of fat from the area. After pulling the skin down and trimming any excess, he sutures the incision together. Scarring is minimal and should fade over time.

Recovery from Abdominoplasty

Dr. Passaretti will use his surgical skill to ensure your tummy tuck recovery involves minimal downtime so you can get back to your life and show the world your new trim, toned abdomen. As with any surgery, you may feel some discomfort after your tummy tuck. We will help you manage your pain with medication. Dr. Passaretti will meet with you the day after your surgery to monitor your progress and make sure you are comfortable. Most patients return to work in about two weeks, although your recovery time will vary based on the extent of your procedure. You will wear a compression garment which can be hidden under clothing for at least one month to ensure you heal properly.

Follow-Up Care

While you recover from your abdominoplasty, you will maintain regular visits with Dr. Passaretti to ensure that you are healing properly. Dr. Passaretti will provide you with explicit instruction on what to expect after surgery and what activities you should refrain from.

A Focus on Patient Education

Tummy tuck surgery is safe and effective, but it is an invasive procedure and so is not without risk. At our office, we will educate you on the details of abdominoplasty so that you can make an informed decision regarding treatment.

Why Delay Treatment After a C-Section?

Women often face significant pressure to return to their pre-pregnancy weight quickly after giving birth. Some women even consider undergoing a tummy tuck at the same time as their C-section. However, combining both procedures can have traumatic effects on the body. Waiting until you are fully recovered is vital to ensure you experience the full benefits of abdominoplasty and avoid further health risks. In addition, undergoing a tummy tuck immediately after pregnancy can make caring for your newborn difficult. Dr. Passaretti can determine your candidacy for a tummy tuck after C-section during an exam.

Time to Heal

Women who have a C-section typically have a four to six inch scar above the pubis area. This incision takes at minimum six weeks to heal properly, and the body generally requires at least eight weeks to adjust to physical changes. At this point, your physician may allow you to start a light exercise routine. Putting undue stress on your body during this period can have adverse effects.

Dr. Passaretti is dedicated to providing safe procedures that offer incredible results without impacting your overall health

Most surgeons advise waiting at least six months to a year after a C-section before scheduling a tummy tuck procedure. While a tummy tuck may sound simple, it is a major surgery involving the alteration of muscle, tissue, and skin. Studies show that combining Cesarean delivery with abdominoplasty increases the chance of surgical complications by 51 percent and is less likely to deliver the desired aesthetic results.

Benefits of Waiting

The benefits of waiting at least six months or more after a C-section are substantial. Giving your body time to heal lowers the chance of surgical complications. It also allows time for you to bond with your new baby without the added stress of an additional procedure. You will need at least two weeks of almost complete downtime after your tummy tuck procedure alone, during which you may need help caring for your child.

Waiting also gives you a chance to address pregnancy weight gain with diet and exercise. Abdominoplasty is not a weight loss procedure. It is designed to remove excess skin, so you can achieve a smoother silhouette. If you are closer to your ideal weight when you undergo a tummy tuck, more excess skin can be removed. In such cases, the surgeon is sometimes able to move the cesarean scar below the bikini line.*

Types of Abdominoplasty

In addition to traditional abdominoplasty surgery, the following options are available to patients who visit our Fairfield County practice:

  • Circumferential Abdominoplasty: Often used for post-bariatric surgery patients (as it is a fairly extensive procedure), this tummy tuck is performed through an incision that spans the circumference of the waistline.
  • Mini Abdominoplasty: Also known as a “scarless” tummy tuck, a mini tummy tuck is often suitable for patients who require only a small amount of abdominal fat and skin to be removed.
  • Endoscopic Abdominoplasty: A minimally invasive procedure that utilizes special, tiny instruments - including a thin tube with a camera on the end - for reduced bleeding, swelling, and scarring. The endoscopic tummy tuck is best for patients with small amounts of excess skin.
  • Extended Abdominoplasty: This procedure addresses excess skin around the sides of the midsection, including the flanks and hips.

A Closer Look at Mini Tummy Tuck

mini tummy tuck procedure with Dr. David Passaretti can help you enjoy a more toned midsection with a reduced recovery time. A traditional abdominoplasty can tighten and firm your stomach, but it involves a more intensive procedure and a lengthier recovery time. If you suffer from a minimal amount of excess tissue on your abdomen and want to experience a smoother stomach with a less invasive procedure, Dr. Passaretti may suggest a mini tummy tuck.

Who is a Candidate?

Many patients can benefit from a mini tummy tuck, but you must meet certain criteria to qualify for this procedure. You may be a good candidate for this surgery if you:

  • Have a minimal amount of excess skin and fat in your midsection
  • Do not suffer from bulging or separated abdominal muscles, since this procedure typically does not address muscular tissue
  • Are concerned about scarring, since mini tummy tucks can reduce your chance of developing noticeable scars
  • Do not smoke, as this habit can interfere with proper healing
  • Are in good overall health and able to safely undergo anesthesia and sedation
  • Are at a stable weight since fluctuations in your weight can interfere with your tummy tuck results

At your initial consultation, Dr. Passaretti will examine your abdomen, go over your medical records, and discuss your expected outcomes to determine if you are eligible for a mini tummy tuck.

The Procedure

During mini tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Passaretti will administer the necessary anesthesia and sedation to keep you comfortable. Next, he will create a small incision somewhere below your navel and above your pubic region, depending on your particular needs. Next Dr. Passaretti will carefully remove surplus fat, skin, and tissue from your abdomen. He may also use liposuction to sculpt your stomach at this time. In some rare cases, he may also modify your abdominal muscle, although this is not typical. To complete your mini tummy tuck, Dr. Passaretti will suture your incision closed.

This minimally invasive approach means that Dr. Passaretti does not need to reposition your belly button. It involves a much shorter, smaller incision than traditional, circumferential, or extended abdominoplasties. Unlike an endoscopic tummy tuck, a mini abdominoplasty does not involve the use of special camera-controlled tools.

Benefits of a Mini Tummy Tuck

Mini abdominoplasty is a popular procedure because it offers numerous advantages over other body contouring techniques. The benefits of this surgery include a shorter healing time and subtler scarring. Since this procedure requires less extensive tissue modification, you can get back to work, school, and other activities more quickly. Like other contouring procedures, you can expect o experience improved self-esteem and confidence, as well as the ability to more comfortably wear midriff-bearing clothing or swimsuits

Cost Considerations

Before you undergo abdominoplasty, you will, of course, need to consider its cost. Our team can help you determine the cost you will pay for your tummy tuck and help you consider its costs and benefits to make the best decision for you.

Individualized Cost Factors

Each patient’s body is unique, so Dr. Passaretti will use an incision technique that best addresses your condition and desired results. The various tummy tuck techniques require different equipment, suturing, and technology. If Dr. Passaretti uses liposuction to break down and extract excess fat, this will also add to the cost of the procedure. The type of anesthesia used and pain medication prescribed will also affect the total treatment cost.

Investing in Your Confidence

The primary benefit of a tummy tuck is that it improves the appearance of your midsection, which can improve your self-esteem and confidence. This surgery can also repair and strengthen your abdominal muscles. Having a slimmer, smoother abdomen can make exercising easier, allowing you to maintain and improve your figure. A tummy tuck can also reduce the risk of fungal infection that comes with having large folds of excess skin over your stomach. Overall, this procedure can improve your appearance, confidence, and overall health.
