Full and shapely buttocks can enhance your figure and boost your confidence. If you have lost volume with age or weight loss, or are naturally flat, you may benefit from a Brazilian Butt Lift at our Darien, CT, practice.
Dr. David Passaretti, M.D., F.A.C.S., an expert at performing this procedure, will use your own excess fat deposits to create a plumper, fuller backside. After performing liposuction on another area of your body, the doctor will inject fat cells into your gluteal area. Following treatment, you may enjoy a more defined and youthful figure that will last for years to come.
A Brazilian Butt Lift (or BBL) is a minimally invasive procedure that transfers fat from area of your body to another and can have dramatic effects on your overall appearance. To perform this treatment, Dr. Passaretti will first perform liposuction. Common treatment areas include the waist, abdomen, and thighs. By reducing fat in these areas near the buttocks, liposuction can help further improve your figure.
Once he has removed unwanted fat, Dr. Passaretti will place the fat cells in a centrifuge to isolate and purify them. He then injects them into the buttocks at varying depths to improve the absorption rate and to achieve a subtle, rounded look. Once the fat has been harvested it has lost its blood supply. In order to survive it needs to be surrounded by healthy tissue. If the deposits of fat are too large, the middle will not get enough nourishment and will die, leading to loss of volume and hard areas of scarring. This is what limits the volume of fat that can be grafted at one time. Dr. Passaretti uses a micro grafting technique to ensure the highest possible graft survival with the least amount of volume loss. During your consultation, he will discuss the best volume for you based upon your aesthetic goals and personal anatomy.
Dr. Passaretti is highly experienced in performing this procedure and can help you achieve fuller, rounder buttocks to enhance your figure.
You may be an ideal candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift if:
Dr. Passaretti will conduct a complete consultation to determine your candidacy for a butt lift.
BBLs have several advantages over other types of gluteal enhancements, such as butt implants. First, because the procedure utilizes your own fat to augment your figure, there is no risk that your body will reject the cells. Implants, on the other hand, have significant long term risks of infection, rotation or change in position, and extrusion (coming out through the skin!). In addition, because a BBL is a minimally invasive procedure it offers much less discomfort, faster recovery time, and virtually no scarring. Finally, because Dr. Passaretti will perform liposuction on other parts of your body, the treatment will enhance your overall figure and give you two results for the price of one.
A study found that over 70 percent of grafted fat stayed in place over a long period following butt augmentation.
After treatment, you can enjoy a fuller, more proportionate figure, and greater confidence that may positively impact many different areas of your life. The technique can achieve incredibly natural-looking effects, including:
With the transferred fat in place, you can have more pronounced curves and an overall more contoured silhouette that can last for a long time with proper care. In fact, a study completed by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons found that over 70 percent of grafted fat stayed in place over a long period following butt augmentation.
During your consultation, Dr. Passaretti will assess your areas of concern and determine how to achieve the most natural-looking, proportionate results. If you have an athletic build, you may choose to accentuate the roundness of your buttocks by placing fat at the sides. Adding fat to the central and upper regions can improve lift and perkiness while addressing flatness or sagging. Every surgery is tailored to your areas of concern, as well as desired curvature and volume.
Patients should be in good overall health leading up to the procedure. It is also important to keep in mind that because a Brazilian butt lift is not a weight loss surgery, patients should already be close to their ideal weight.
Prior to beginning your procedure, Dr. Passaretti will place you under general anesthesia or IV sedation in his private surgical facility so you can stay comfortable during the procedure. However, you will need a trusted friend or family member to drive you home after surgery. You should plan to take one to two weeks off work to recover most effectively.
If performed properly and in a certified surgical facility, yes, it is very safe. The American Society of Plastics Surgeons has issued a warning concerning the risks of BBLs due to a high number of deaths associated with the operation. All of these deaths were in otherwise healthy young women and were related to one of two issues. First, being performed in uncertified surgery centers where there is not appropriate equipment and staffing. Secondly, large volumes of fat being injected that leads to fat entering into the large veins in the gluteal area and traveling to the lungs (fat embolism). Dr Passaretti only performs these procedures in his private certified surgery center, The Aesthetic Center, to ensure your safety.
To keep the operation safe there is a limit to how much fat can be injected at one time. Although this volume can vary depending upon your anatomy, a safe estimate is between 200cc and 400cc per side.
Any fat that survives the initial transfer is permanent. Studies have shown that about 70% of the initial volume is due to fat, as opposed to swelling and fluid, and will be maintained for life.
To get the best fat survival rates and maximize your results it is important that you avoid pressure on the surgical sites for several weeks. Patients will generally: sleep on their side, use doughnut cushions to sit, and spend as much time standing as possible. After several weeks the fat will have grafted into place and you can gradually resume normal sitting.
Recovery after a Brazilian butt lift typically lasts two to six months, but your timeline will ultimately depend upon your unique rate of healing. After surgery, Dr. Passaretti can provide you with detailed instructions to promote recovery, in addition to compression bandages and medication to reduce swelling and ease discomfort. Throughout your Brazilian butt lift recovery, it is important to avoid strenuous exercise and use a donut pillow while you sleep and drive for optimal support. During your consultation, Dr. Passaretti can recommend appropriate modifications to your daily post-surgery routines, so you can properly prepare for your recovery.
After surgery, you may experience some discomfort at the site where liposuction was performed. However, most bruising and swelling will be localized around your buttocks and should subside within a few days.
We also recommend taking short and gentle walks around your house to stimulate healing and prevent constipation, which is a common side effect. During the first few days of recovery, you may also notice a small amount of fluid draining from the surgical sites. This is normal and not cause for alarm. We can demonstrate the proper way to care for your wounds and place special bandages.
A full butt lift recovery will usually take two to six months. During the first week, you should get plenty of rest. You may wish to ask a friend or loved one to stay with you and assist with daily chores and driving. You can resume easy to moderate physical activities in about a month. However, you should avoid strenuous exercise such as running, squatting, and heavy lifting. During the first month, you should also refrain from taking baths and visiting saunas or swimming pools. Dr. Passaretti can provide specific guidelines, depending upon your rate of healing and your regular workout routine.
A full butt lift recovery will usually take two to six months.
Typically, you will need to wear compression garments for the full eight weeks of recovery. These will help the fat graft areas to heal smoothly and naturally, while minimizing swelling. During this period, you will not be able to sit or lie directly on your buttocks. While sleeping, you should lie on your side. While sitting, you should use a donut pillow. Though you will typically be able to drive in a few weeks, you should use a donut pillow in the car, as well. When the recovery process is complete, you can enjoy a more supple, voluptuous appearance.
The most effective way to prevent complications after a Brazilian butt lift is to follow Dr. Passaretti’s detailed instructions and wear your compression bandages. It is also vital to attend your follow-up visits, so our team can evaluate your progress and detect any signs of complications.
