A Neck Lift Creates Slim, Graceful Contours and a Youthful Look
A smooth, shapely neck can affect the appearance of your entire face. If you have excess skin or fat in your neck, you may benefit from a neck lift at our Darien, CT, practice. During the procedure, Dr. David Passaretti will create small incisions behind your ears or beneath your chin. He will then remove excess skin, and can lift underlying muscles if needed to eliminate jowls and other unwanted contours.
A neck lift can have dramatic results and rejuvenate the look of the entire face. For an even more powerful effect, Dr. Passaretti can combine this procedure with a facelift, mini facelift, facial fillers, or another type of facial cosmetic surgery or non-surgical procedure.
Are You a Candidate for a Neck Lift?
If you want to improve any of the following cosmetic concerns, a neck lift may be the most effective solution:
- Loose, hanging skin on the neck
- A double or triple chin
- A banded appearance on the neck
For the best possible results, you should have a certain degree of skin elasticity. For that reason, most neck lift patients are between their forties and sixties, although you may still qualify for a neck lift if you are older.
Dr. Passaretti will carefully evaluate your skin quality to determine your candidacy. You should be in generally good health, with no bleeding disorders or autoimmune diseases. During your consultation, he can also take the time to answer your questions and outline your recovery timeline.
The Neck Lift Procedure
“Neck lifts are one of the safest cosmetic procedures available today, offering minimal scarring and incredibly natural-looking results.”
Prior to your neck lift, Dr. Passaretti will administer local anesthesia. We also offer several types of sedation.
Once you are resting comfortably, Dr. Passaretti will begin the procedure by creating hidden incisions. If he performs a traditional neck lift, he will create a longer incision around the ears, down to the back of the hairline. If you have a smaller amount of excess skin, the doctor will create incisions around only your ears. Hidden in your hair, all resulting scars will be virtually undetectable.
Next, the doctor will remove drooping skin and tighten remaining tissue. For a more dramatic effect, he may also lift and tighten underlying muscles. If you have unwanted pockets of fat in the neck, he can perform tumescent or ultrasound liposuction to create smoother contours.
Once he has removed all excess tissue, he will carefully suture the incisions. You can expect the entire surgery to take around two hours. This timeframe may increase if you combine a neck lift with a related procedure.
Recovery and Results
Neck lifts are one of the safest cosmetic procedures available today, offering minimal scarring and incredibly natural-looking results.
Neck lifts require one to two weeks of recovery. During the first several days, you will need to get plenty of bedrest, although short walks around the house can promote faster healing. You will also need to sleep with your head elevated, and you should not wear clothing that you must pull over your head.
You will also wear compression bandages, changing them as instructed, and prescription pain medication can manage any discomfort. It is vital that you attend all follow-up appointments so that the doctor can monitor your healing. As you recover, you will start to notice the outstanding results of the procedure:
- Your neck will appear thinner and more youthful.
- Your chin and entire face may appear more defined, especially when you opt to combine a neck lift with another type of facial plastic surgery.
- You will feel more confident about your appearance, which, in turn, can increase self-assurance in other areas of your life.
