DR. DAVID PASSARETTI: Every patient heals differently. But the mark from the incision is usually less than two inches and will fade dramatically over time. There is some discomfort after the surgery, but it's not long-lived and we'll give you medication to make sure you're comfortable. I may also encourage you to wear a protective bra for the first few weeks after surgery. This will help you feel more comfortable and protect your chest. Usually within a week patients are up and moving around. Most of our patients take about a week off from work, and within a month they're really enjoying the results they've been waiting for.
