DR. DAVID PASSARETTI: I perform liposuction by using a thin metal tube called a cannula which is inserted underneath the skin to vacuum fat away from particular areas in the body. This procedure can produce reliable safe results, and scarring is minimal. The number of incisions I make depends on how many areas we're treating. But the incision areas are hidden and often less than one-half inch in length. After surgery I'm going to ask you to wear a compression garment for about five weeks so we can assure the best results. We'll fit this garment to your body and you'll be able to hide it under your clothes. This short-term sacrifice is well worth the long-term results. Do you have any preliminary questions about the liposuction procedure?
